Today’s Free Shirt Wednesday is Armor Gold Cables! I few weeks ago I introduced Armor Gold Cables to EffectsBay.com users, and Dustin from Armor Gold Cables was kind enough to send me a shirt (and a cool sticker) for Free Shirt Wednesday this week! Armor Gold Cables makes high quality instrument, patch and speaker cables. They focus on medium-low capacitance wire for great tone, hitting the sweet spot of 33pf to get maximum warmth and clarity. Often times cables with super low capacitance will be too trebly, high capacitance cables are too dark, so they shoot for that ideal range. Dustin sent us a cable to test, and we used it on a few upcoming demos, and it sounded great. It wrapped nicely and you could tell it’s durability with the polymer outer mesh on the cable. Plugs were solid, and the tone was as described. Nice.

Wow, talk about being overwhelmed! Had a great vacation in Newport, OR and I returned to a flood of emails and my to-do list is.. HUGE. Over the weekend, Griffin Technology contacted me to let me know about a product that the EffectsBay.com readers might be interested in.. and I think they might.

It’s the GuitarConnect Cable for connecting your guitar to a iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and use applications like iShred. I’m ‘assuming’ this could be used with the TC Electronics Polytune’s iPhone app as well, but I cannot confirm. Basically, it’s a 1/4″ input that plugs into your guitar and has a 6′ cable to your device. Cost is only $29.99.

This all started with a email I sent to Mark Stoddard, the owner of Lava Cable. I was curious if they would be interested in donating a kit/product for a EffectsBay.com give away.. and he agreed! But I would like to make this give away a small personal review post as well.

About two months ago, I purchased the Lava Cable Kit (mini ELC) from Musician’s Friend ($89.95) and I was really curious how it worked, since it’s a different design than traditional solderless cable kits. Someone in Twitter-land mentioned it’s a bit tricky to get the right angle cables, and noticed that with the first one. But after I got the idea (the bend) it was a piece of cake. What’s interesting about this design is the ‘sleeve’ they use which I believes grounds the shielding properly. I was impressed with the quality of the cable (low capacitance), jacks and how easy getting a working cable was. I’ve had them on my pedal board since I bought the kit, and no issues at all with shorting or cracking.. so that is a big thumbs up for me.

So here is the give away. Mark is putting up a Lava Solder Free Kit (all R/A plugs) 15′ Lave ELC cable. My kit was $90 with 10′ cable.. and this is a 15′ for FREE!

Please check out Lave Cable’s website, since they do offer other great quality products. Browsing there, I noticed their CPS Configurable Pedal Board System… seems very cool!
