GuitarConnect Cable

GuitarConnect Cable - Griffin Technology

Wow, talk about being overwhelmed! Had a great vacation in Newport, OR and I returned to a flood of emails and my to-do list is.. HUGE. Over the weekend, Griffin Technology contacted me to let me know about a product that the EffectsBay.com readers might be interested in.. and I think they might.

It’s the GuitarConnect Cable for connecting your guitar to a iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and use applications like iShred. I’m ‘assuming’ this could be used with the TC Electronics Polytune’s iPhone app as well, but I cannot confirm. Basically, it’s a 1/4″ input that plugs into your guitar and has a 6′ cable to your device. Cost is only $29.99.

Here is a sweet little demo using a iPad.

Can’t you get a cable like that anyplace? What’s special about it?

    Hello Toby

The guitar cable is special because there is a 1/4″ jack that splits to 1/8″ male, AND 1/8″ female. This gives you the ability to plug the 1/4″ into the guitar, plug the 1/8″ into the iPhone/iPad, etc, AND allows you to plug in headphones to the 1/8″ female.

I got mine a few weeks ago and have really been digging it. Very cool to chill on the couch or in bed and jam out. Looking forward to some updates in the future that will enable you to record. It’s really been cool to upload music to it and jam along. I bought some cables to hook it to my amp and directly to a board to a PA but haven’t had the chance to do it yet.

@Toby: Most adapters for iDevices still require that you plug in a mic that has the four connectors instead of just the two that most non-iDevice mics have (like a computer mic). This, I’m sure, might be because Apple only authorizes splitter cable companies to make the kind of splitters mentioned above. I’ve never seen an iPhone adapter that would let you use a regular computer headset (with headphones and microphone inputs separated), if they did, all those companies selling iPhone headsets would be out of business. The GuitarConnect cable is unique because it does what most adapters don’t: split the input -for guitar, and headphone plugs. You could even use it together with another adapter to plug in any computer heaset and use it on an iPhone. Or, you could buy the parts and solder your own adapter, just don’t sell them, or don’t advertise they are for iPhones or you might get sued by Apple.
