Free Shirt Wednesday – 2/8 – Custom 77

Free Shirt Wednesday - 2/8 - Custom 77Today’s Free Shirt Wednesday is brought to you by Custom 77.

Custom 77 is an interesting company out of France that has their hands in multiple aspects of musical gear. They build guitars, basses, acoustics, cymbals and effects. As you can see, they have a lot of things going on. When Paul from Custom 77 sent over the shirt, he sent over a couple of pedals to get demo’d as well. He sent over a Push Me Pull Me Overdrive and a King for a Day Boost. We recently shot the videos for these (will post down the road after they’re completed), but my expectations were fairly high…. and I was not let down, both of these pedals sounded really, really good. They really focused on practical tone options and offering some features you normally don’t see in a stomp box. I’ll definitely get into more of that on their individual demos coming in the near future.

When you get a chance, check out their site – they definitely offer some high quality products and they ship to the United States as well. You can learn more by liking their Facebook page and following them on Twitter as well.

Free Shirt Wednesday - 2/8 - Custom 77Now, if you want to be featured on Free Shirt Wednesday.. it’s really quite simple. Send me a shirt, if it’s music related (ie: guitar builder, band, pedal builder, guitar shop, recording studio, etc) I’ll dedicate a blog post about your biz, band, etc. I’ll take a photo with my aging, slightly pudgy mug and post it. Great simple, cheap form of advertising. Still interested? Then check this page for more info

Free Shirt Wednesday – 1/18 – Walrus Audio

Free Shirt Wednesday - 1/18 - Walrus AudioToday’s Free Shirt Wednesday is brought to you by Walrus Audio. A little while back they sponsored a give away for the Voyager Overdrive which was very popular with a TON of submissions for that thing.

Walrus Audio is a group of musicians out of Oklahoma creating pedals that they’re into, plain and simple. They basically do everything from circuit design, build, and the art work (including silk screening the graphics). Very DIY.

They basically have three main pedals in their line so far (but also do some great pedal modifications) – Voyager Overdrive, Deep Six Compressor and the Iron Horse.

Be sure to check out their website, like them on Facebook (I really enjoy their Facebook posts personally) and follow them on Twitter!

Here is a great video that gives you a sense of what they’re all about. Enjoy!

Free Shirt Wednesday – 1/4 – Spaceman Effects

Free Shirt Wednesday - 1/4 - Spaceman EffectsGIVE AWAY  IS CLOSED

I’m digging today’s Free Shirt Wednesday, which is sponsored by Spaceman Effects. Spaceman Effects is a company that is getting some great buzz out of Portland, OR. We were fortunate enough to demo the Spaceman Aphelion (which I later bought for myself) and I put in a order for a Spaceman Gemini III fuzz… and we’ll be sure to demo that when it arrives.

Spaceman prides itself on building quality effects using quality components. I can attest to the quality of the enclosures and components, they’re great. Obvious attention to detail. I also like how they do limited runs of *styles* of enclosures.. making them collectible, etc.

To me, you can tell when a boutique builder is doing the right thing when you start seeing these pedals on the floor of bands. I mentioned I saw an Aphelion on the floor at the recent Appleseed Cast show I went to. Jimmy, who does the demos here at EffectsBay already had one on his board before we even demo’d the Aphelion (Frankly, if it’s on Jimmy’s board.. it’s a pedal to take a look at).

Spaceman Effects offers 5 basic models of pedals – Gemini III fuzz, Space Rocket, Rumble Fuzz, Aphelion Overdrive and the Mecury III boost. You can purchase different variants depending on what’s available.

When Zak (lead astronaut) sent over a shirt, he thought it would be cool to give one away to an EffectsBay reader as well. I’ll make this really easy, you can enter by filling out the form below. I’ll pick a random winner on Friday(1/6). I’ll contact the winner to get a shirt size and I’ll relay mailing information to Spaceman Effects and get the shirt on it’s way to you.

Make sure you ‘like’ Spaceman Effects on Facebook to see what’s to come as well!

Free Shirt Wednesday – 12/7 – BassEFX

Free Shirt Wednesday - 12/7 - BassEFXDecember 7th, the day that will live in infamy. I have a few relatives that joined the military the following days in 1941 and were some of the lucky ones to survive WWII. It was a crazy time in the world and should be remembered.

Today’s Free Shirt Wednesday is sponsored by BassEFX.com out of Seattle, Washington.  Chad Beeler over at BassEFX.com is the real deal for bass knowledge, and he created a website to focus on effects for bass players out there. His knowledge in the field is quite extensive, he’s definitely been around the tone block and can really be helpful when thinking of effects and your bass tone. For more information about Chad and BassEFX, please read my October interview with him – “Talking with Chad at BassEFX.com

Here is a nice snippet from BassEFX.com that describes it perfectly:

BassEfx.com provides the widest selection of bass pedals and bass effects available. That’’s it – no guitar effects, no instruments, no amps. Our singular focus (and our special relationship with manufacturers) enables us to offer bass players the biggest selection, the most competitive prices and the best service.
Personal guidance — from a pro

Bass players of all styles work to find their individual, original voice.  That “voice,” of course, is tone. Too many bass musicians don’t realize that the right bass effect can help you create your tone –and share it with an audience.

When it comes to effects, some bass players benefit from one-on-one guidance. At BassEfx.com, you get it. Chad Beeler, a seasoned bass professional, can help you find, modify, or augment any sound.  Whether you want just the right amount of balls, anger, funkiness or beauty, Chad gets what you’re talking about. He’s played bass for more than 30 years, used every effect imaginable, and equipped some of the world’s best known bass players.

Over at BassEFX.com there is a great selection of effects from multiple manufacturers including some great boutique builders. They cover all the ‘types’ of effects from filters to distortion to delays to function pedals like EQs and DIs as well. BassEFX.com is also involved socially with Facebook and Twitter, be sure to like/follow to receive updates on sales and news.

Now, if you want to be featured on Free Shirt Wednesday.. it’s really quite simple. Send me a shirt, if it’s music related (ie: guitar builder, band, pedal builder, guitar shop, recording studio, etc) I’ll dedicate a blog post about your biz, band, etc. I’ll take a photo with my aging, slightly pudgy mug and post it. Musiquip T-Rex T-Shirt Give Away Winner

Phew. Just got back from my trip visiting Central California. Some Gilroy.. little Santa Cruz and some Monterey. Awesome trip. But now, I need to get things caught up. A couple of weeks ago I had the Musiquip Free Shirt Wednesday post where they sent me a T-Rex t-shirt to wear. I didn’t wear it, since I already *modeled* that particular shirt in a past Free Shirt Wednesday post, but I thought it would be fun to give it away. So I made a special mailing list subscriber give away. I also included a limited edition EffectsBay.com tee as well. Everyone that was subscribed to the mailing list and I selected one random entry from that list.

The winner of that give away is Shawn M. from Ocala, Florida! He was kind enough to send me a photo with his prize. I want to send a special thank you for Musiquip for sending the shirt, please check out their site!

Free Shirt Wednesday – 9/28 – Musiquip

Today’s Free Shirt Wednesday is brought to you by Musiquip. I was contacted by Musiquip a few months ago letting me know that they’re a an official US distributor of T-Rex pedals and I was happy to meet someone else from the T-Rex family. I think T-Rex makes some great things, I really like how they really try to reach out by sending their pedals out to be reviewed, etc. It’s really hard to beat that type of promotion for your company.

Musiquip is a marketing and distribution company dedicated to the US music industry. They distribute a variety of brands – Tanglewood Guitar Company, AER, Boucher Guitars, JBovier Guitars, Steph, Hiscox Cases and T-Rex Effects. The people at Musiquip wanted to send a t-shirt to EffectsBay to be featured for Free Shirt Wednesday. A few days ago I received the shirt and it was a black T-Rex t-shirt. Very cool. One problem, I already have it. Solution. Why not give it away!

Free Shirt Wednesday - 9/28 - MusiquipSo for this Free Shirt Wednesday I didn’t put the shirt on for the photo, and I’ll be giving it away. Along with this shirt, I figured I’d give away an EffectsBay.com shirt as well. To have your chance to win this shirt (both are ‘Large’), just sign up to the mailing list. If you’re already signed up.. you’re already entered. You can sign up to the EffectsBay mailing list here. I’ll pick a winner in a couple of days.

Thanks Musiquip for sending the shirt!

Now, if you want to be featured on Free Shirt Wednesday.. it’s really quite simple. Free Shirt Wednesday – 6/22 – Killer Guitar Components

Free Shirt Wednesday - 6/22 - Killer Guitar ComponentsToday’s Free Shirt Wednesday is Killer Guitar Components! Killer Guitar Components is a business that manufacturers one-of-a-kind components for electric guitars. Components would include tremolo blocks, bridges, saddles, and so much more.

A while back I needed some specific saddles built for a guitar project I was working on, which I wish I knew about these guys back then, it would have been a perfect solution. Killer Guitar Components is a father and son operation where they machine pieces to order. They are located on Gloucester/Magnolia, MA. Their components are machined from brass which look and sounds great!

Free Shirt Wednesday - 6/22 - Killer Guitar ComponentsI found this video by tat2sbylolo where he talks about his KGC brass block in his strat. He is definitely liking his upgrade!

Please check out Killer Guitar Components at their website, like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter. If you’ve purchased a component from them in the past, please let me know what you think by commenting below!

Free Shirt Wednesday – 6/15 – Coopersonic

Today’s Free Shirt Wednesday is Coopersonic Audio Engineering! I was psyched to receive a package with a pedal for review and a tee shirt.

Free Shirt Wednesday - 6/15 - CoopersonicIt’s funny with shirts, important to advertise your biz. Get the exposure, get noticed. I liked how this shirt definitely gets your attention. I had to strategically get my son locked on a cartoon while I had this photo shot.. for obvious reason. Thrust. Balls. Tits. Ass. What could it mean? Checking out Coopersonic’s website, it all came clear. These are the controls for his Valveslapper pedal! Clever. I dig it.. I dig it re-al bad!

Coopersonic is from the UK and are making some fantastic pedals, and are starting to really get a name for themselves in the guitar effects world out there. I’m really excited to try out their Dirtbox pedal. We should have a review in the next few weeks for this guy, and I’m sure it’ll perform and sound great.

I’ve been really liking some of these builders from outside of the US. I appreciate their twist on things, and I’m happy to present their pedals to the masses. These are great opportunities to get something in your line, that’s not seen everywhere.

If you have a moment, please check out Coopersonic’s website, like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter. They have a great blog as well, that I’ve been reading.

Thanks for sending the shirt my way!

Free Shirt Wednesday – 5/4 – Armor Gold Cables

Free Shirt Wednesday - 5/4 - Armor Gold CablesToday’s Free Shirt Wednesday is Armor Gold Cables! I few weeks ago I introduced Armor Gold Cables to EffectsBay.com users, and Dustin from Armor Gold Cables was kind enough to send me a shirt (and a cool sticker) for Free Shirt Wednesday this week! If you haven’t checked out the previous post about Armor Gold Cables, please do so – in that post I had a mini interview with Dustin, and it’s interesting. You can read the post here:  “Introducing Armor Gold Cables“.

Armor Gold Cables makes high quality instrument, patch and speaker cables. They focus on medium-low capacitance wire for great tone, hitting the sweet spot of 33pf to get maximum warmth and clarity. Often times cables with super low capacitance will be too trebly, high capacitance cables are too dark, so they shoot for that ideal range. Dustin sent us a cable to test, and we used it on a few upcoming demos, and it sounded great. It wrapped nicely and you could tell it’s durability with the polymer outer mesh on the cable. Plugs were solid, and the tone was as described. Nice.

Here is a demo video featuring the Armor Gold Cable by DolphinStreet:

If you’re looking to pick up a new cable or two, make sure to check out Armor Gold Cables. If you like the shirt, you can pick one up on their web site as well! Want to know more about Armor Gold Cable? Check them out on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter as well.
