Effects Bay

The last few weeks I’ve been playing around with reverb. Never thought I ever would be.. but I am.. and I’m liking it.. a lot. I’ve been exploring some ambient guitar playing, and satisfying my guilty pleasures of ‘verb and delay tones.

Today I happened to catch this absolutely awesome demo / review of the Electro-Harmonix Cathedral stereo reverb pedal by Dave Weiner. This is a extremely thorough demo, where Dave goes into all the modes and controls, and I have to say this reverb pedal sounds incredibly good, and has some major options available. The ‘infinite’ option and the ‘freeze’ capabilities are cool.. and could be extremely fun. I also liked the ability to adjust the tone on the reverb.. to make the reverb portion darker or brighter.

The Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb pedal surrounds your tone with an aria of rich presence. It’s loaded with 7 different types of reverb plus digital echo, all of which work in true stereo. Full programmability lets you recall previous settings instantly. The EHX Cathedral Stereo Reverb lets you create the perfect space for your instrument or voice while offering an elegance that takes your music to a higher ground.

The Cathedral offers two spring modes: Grail Spring, based on the Holy Grail’s spring emulation, and Accu Spring, an Accutronics spring tank emulation. Top notch, professional Hall, Room, Plate, and Reverse reverb algorithms. Grail Flerb mode is the EHX Holy Grail Flerb with greater adjustability. Echo mode makes the Cathedral into a versatile 2-second digital delay. Up to 2 seconds of Pre-Delay, with Feedback allow for reverberant echoes. Tap tempo footswitch sets the pre-delay time with your foot. Instantaneous infinite reverb is yours by pressing and holding the Tap footswitch. Tone controls on the reverbs allow for further refinement of the sound. True stereo in and out.

So, I’ve been noticing that the site has been getting a lot of hits from search engines related to my Electro Harmonix Memory Toy and Electro Harmonix Memory Boy posts. I wanted to find some better comparisons (especially up against the Electro Harmonix Memory Man), but I found this great video from the  Summer NAMM 2009 show at the Electro Harmonix booth.

It features a demo of the Memory Toy, Memory Boy, Cathedral and something really new to me, the 22 Caliber power amp (as a pedal).
