Elite Tone Fillmore Thunder Fuzz Octave

The Fillmore Thunder By Elite Tone - A Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Octave Guitar Effects PedalYesterday while wasting my day on YouTube I came across an interesting pedal – The Fillmore Thunder by Elite Tone. This was the first time I’ve heard of Elite Tone, and I’m always psyched to learn about new builders out there (or at least new to me). The Fillmore Thunder is a Jimi Hendrix fuzz octave pedal which can give you those classic ‘Jimi’ tones for leads. You have the option of clean octave.. as well as a footswitch for a silicon BC-108 fuzz octave.

Here is the official description of the Elite Tone Fillmore Thunder Fuzz Octave:

Highlighting the Jimi Hendrix tone – off of the “Live at the Fillmore East” album. And “The band of Gypsy’s era the pedal achieves Octave tones from his first album to his last. This dual pedal includes a classic BC-108 silicon transistor Fuzz Face style distortion pedal, with four controls for the Fuzz and a custom Octave stage. The octave circuit is fully autonomous from the fuzz and housed into the second pedal stage signal. That’s right 2 pedals in 1 box. The exclusive secret Jimi Hendrix modification is applied in this circuit. The Fuzz as achieves custom and stock late 60′s- early 70′s fuzz tones. The Fillmore stands out with its unique ability function silently with Wah-wah’s in tandem and no unwanted oscillations or noise. This dual custom guitar effect pedal is different than any other fuzz or octave pedal on the market. The second stage is a unique warm prominent clean octave-up sound that is different from the Octavia, but sounds the way people would like it too : ). The quality of the octave up is of higher quality then most if not all Hendrix Octave pedals. Smooth articulating octave notes even works with chords! Use up and down the entire neck! Featuring two fully independent pedals in one box. The Fillmore Thunder is a must have for any true Jimi Hendrix fan.

I was excited to see a gearmanndude demo of this pedal:

The Elite Tone Fillmore Thunder Fuzz Octave pedal is available for $177 at Amazon.com

Awesomer deal on the Carl Martin Bass Chorus Pedal

Awesomer deal on the Carl Martin Bass Chorus PedalA couple of days ago I mentioned the killer price on the Carl Martin Bass Chorus Pedal (was $205). I was surprised to see it even lower today! Right now, the Carl Martin Bass Chorus is available for only $184.89 at Amazon.com (that’s $275 below their MSRP).

Here is the full description of the Carl Martin Bass Chorus:

The Bass Chorus is the first in Carl Martin’s new line of bass effects. Although similar in function to the older Chorus XII, it is housed in the new wider/lower metal housing with ‘chicken-head knobs’ for adjustment. Of course, the quality remains the same, and the new housing also encloses the regulated +/-12V power supply for maximum headroom and clarity. So why design a special chorus just for bass? Most chorus effects in the marketplace are designed for guitar use and therefore are mid-range heavy. The Bass Chorus has been extensively fine-tuned so that the full effect of the chorus is evident as far down as low B. Like its’ predecessor, the Bass Chorus is a dual stereo effects pedal with independent sets of speed and depth controls. The ‘Select’ button allows you to use or bypass the effect and the ‘On’ button allows you to choose between your two chorus settings. There is an LED to show the effect is on, and each chorus has its’ own LED indicator which flashes at the speed setting. An added feature with the Bass Chorus is found when switching from a slow chorus to a faster chorus, the effect speeds up slowly for that ‘phat’ vintage Leslie effect! The Bass Chorus is the only choice for bass artists when you compare features….. Carl Martin quality, simplicity, flexibility and transparency

Gibson Guitar Raided

Gibson Guitar RaidedI just got wind that Gibson Guitar was raided (again) due to issues of the wood used in their guitars. A few years ago there was a raid relating to wood brought in from Madagascar. This time it’s related to Indian Rosewood and Ebony. Apparently, Federal Agents came in hard to Gibson’s plant in Nashville and halted all operations

I personally think it’s unusual on how the government is not working with Gibson and coming down with such a strong hammer.  Apparently, Gibson has gone through all the proper channels to obtain the woods. Also, I found it unusual that the problem is related to Indian Rosewood and Ebony, since so many guitars use this for their fingerboards. We’re not talking super exotic/rare woods here.

Gibson Guitar has released their press conference and posted it on YouTube (GibsonGuitarCorp). Some interesting stuff here. I wish the best of luck to Gibson Guitars.

Pedal Line Friday – 8/26 – Josh Baez

Today’s pedal line is from Josh Baez. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedallineateffectsbaydotcom. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.

Pedal Line Friday - 8/26 - Josh Baez
Hi, this is my pedalboard in hopes of making it into Pedal Line Friday.  I play solo and with an 8-person band, This Is Your Captain Speaking- indie rock, alternative, ambient stuff is where we shine.  For my solo work I play music that’s perfect for a rainy day (it’s kind of the only music there is if you live in Seattle!)  Apparently both myself and my band sounds like indie rock groups such as Death Cab for Cutie, Broken Social Scene, and Arcade Fire…

Now time for the real stars of the show…I start out with a Fender Telecaster, then, using a Mogami cable, I run into my Boss TU-2 Tuner.  Going down the line I hit the good ole’  Zvex Vexter Series Box of Rock, perfect for those Marshally sounds at a lower volume.  Then I go into the Fulltone GT-500 for it’s tweakable boost/overdrive and, if I really want things to get dirty, I’ll turn on the distortion side to blow up my house.  I then go to my MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay which I use for light delay/slapback for solos; next is the Boss DD-5 Digital Delay for reverse/dotted delay times.  Then I’ll put my signal through the Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb to make my sound fuller using the room or hall reverb settings, or I’ll use the modulation setting to play ambient progressions/lead lines.  After all is said and done I go into the Line 6 DL4 Delay Modular which I mainly use as a looper for soundscape/ambient stuff.

I connect all my pedals (with the exception of a cheap-o cable from Tuner to BOR, and a Planet Waves cable from RV-5 to DL4) using Hosa Pancake Cables, which have a bad reputation, but to me they’re brilliant and perfect if you want to have more space!

To power it all I use a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+, allowing me to power the MXR Carbon Copy with 12v and my GT-55 using 18v.

I am using a homemade pedalboard and Velcro strips to put it all together; I also use electric tape to make sure my settings stay in the right place.

I am playing all this through a Marshall Class 5 amplifier.

Emma Electronics – StinkBug Overdrive

Emma Electronic StinkBug Classic OverdriveToday I wanted to talk about  the StinkBug Overdrive by Emma Electronics. Emma is company from Denmark making some great sounding pedals. They make a few pedals that are gaining some great attention out there – StinkBug Overdrive, ReezaFRATztiz and DiscomBOBulator to name a few. I came across a great video by Burgerman666 on the StinkBug, so I’ll focus on that… for now.

Here is the official description of the Emma StinkBug:

The Emma Electronic StinkBug classic overdrive pedal has the best of what’s out there, but keeps the body and character of your guitar’s sound intact.

With the StinkBug pedal, the mids respond well, and the highs and lows are right out front for blues rock and pop. In addition, Emma chose a circuit with a particularly nice warmth to it.

The Low and High controls give great control of the amount of mids in the pedal. Turn them both down, and the mid-range comes out, but without being nasal. Turn them up, and the mids gets slightly scooped, still keeping the sound full and punchy.

The Emma StinkBug pedal works great for blues, pop, and rock. It sings well and has great mid-range response.

Here is the video by Burgerman666 showing what the Emma Stinkbug can do. If you haven’t subscribed to Burgman666, I would highly recommend subscribing to his channel. He has great pedal demos.

You can pick up the Emma Electronics StinkBug Overdrive for $245 at Amazon.com

Rivera Blues Shaman

Rivera Blues ShamanFirst of all, I’m a huge fan of Rivera Amps. I’ve owned my Knucklehead 100w head for over 10 years now, and that thing is fantastic.  I’ve kicked around the idea of a new amp, but it’s so hard, since I’m generally very, very happy with mine. Because I’m so happy with that amp my energy level for looking for new amps is pretty much zero.

I was stoked and surprised to see that Rivera is now going into pedals. They would definitely be quite qualified to come up with something that works well with amps and maintaining transparency with the guitar’s tone. Rivera is currently offering three pedals – Blues Shaman, Metal Shaman and the Double Shaman.

Today, I wanted to talk about the Rivera Blues Shaman.

Here is the official description of the Rivera Blues Shaman:

The Blues Shaman emulates the tonal and dynamic range of a small Class A tube amp, with buttery warmth and soft clipping in its overdrive. Its Ascension footswitch delivers feisty gain boost, and its Tone control shapes highs while retaining beefy lows. Further tone shaping comes by flipping the Stack/ Combo switch, which emphasizes tones characteristic of compact, open-backed amps or large-volume closed-back speaker stacks.

Here is a great demo of the Rivera Blues Shaman by Pete Thorn (sinasl1)

As you can hear/see, the Rivera Blues Shaman is a pretty sweet overdrive.  I see it’s available through Amazon for $249.00 or you can purchase direct through their store for the same price. Rivera, if you stumble across this post, I’d love to talk to you more about your pedals! Please contact me!
