Home 2009 November The Edge and his guitar rig

The Edge and his guitar rig

Back in the day I was a U2 fan, not so much lately, but still really like and most importantly respect what they do. I remember when “Achtung Baby” came out I was blown away by the sounds the Edge was pulling out of his hat. I always liked what he did with delay, even though that’s coming from a different direction from where I’m going, but I love watching anybody take ownership of their particular style and dominating it.

Recently, and if you’ve been following me for a bit you already know this, I saw “It Might Get Loud” and that documentary really got me to look at the Edge again. I found this great little interview from September 2008 talking about his guitar rig and sounds. The videos are broken down into two separate parts.

I’ve always liked the fact that the Edge seems to avoid obvious traditional lead guitar lines. Despite that, the stuff he plays works well in the overall context of the song.

Tonya, I agree 100%. He’s not a ‘shredder’, but the layers he creates really make the song.
