Home 2016 January RIP David Bowie

RIP David Bowie

RIP David BowieToday’s news.. hit me hard. David Bowie… was suppose to live forever.

Bowie has meant so many things to me throughout the years. He was with me every decade of my life, and in those times, he left a momentous song for me to reflect on. I don’t really want to talk about the songs, we know them all. What I want to talk about, is that David Bowie has always been the coolest guy on the planet. Always redefining himself. Always growing. Always trying. Always innovating. Always creating. He was art – visually and musically.

I also enjoyed his work on the silver screen. The role that was particularly influential for me – The Hunger. At this time, I was just discovering ‘goth’ bands like Bauhaus, etc, and I absolutely loved this movie. His role in the Prestige as Tesla, perfect!

Another point I wanted to bring up was his influence on my musical heroes. So many of the musicians that I adore and follow today, huge and small, will easily add Bowie as an influence. He was untouchable. A true super hero, untouchable like the sun.

Like Lemmy, David Bowie worked to the end. He just released Blackstar 2 days ago as a gift to all of us. I’m in awe of how one can be sick yet still be able to create something for his fans. Even while dying, you still achieve super star status.

I will miss you David Bowie.

Comment with your thoughts… I need to hear them.

Such a strange sad day. It’s amazing how many people he touched: I’ve never spoken to do many people about the same thing as I did yesterday. I’d just finished working all night when I heard, instead of going to bed I went out and bought his new album and spent all day listening to Bowie, old and new.

I spent all day yesterday, and today, listening and watching his videos. I wish I had seen Lazarus before he passed…I wonder if I would have realized he was saying farewell. It’s so clear now, and heartbreaking.

Bowies music and art is still well beyond its time. Consider the track “we are the dead” from Diamond Dogs. 2050 material. England’s Elvis.
