Pedalboard Break Down – Johnny Marr

Johnny Marr is one of those guitarists I hold in high regard. The Smiths was a band that I enjoyed in my high school days (before I picked up the guitar). Throughout the years, it was cool to see Johnny continue on as a great guitarist, but also a musician that was willing to take challenges and not take the safe route. I was blown away when he signed on to Modest Mouse and recently, I’ve been impressed with his solo project.

I’ve also been very interested in his signature Fender Jaguar as well. I’ve been playing a lot of guitar with a Fender Jazzmaster and was thinking of picking up something different.. but similar. Jaguars have always been on the list, but there were a few things that always bugged me, and that’s when I saw the Marr Jag. He basically addressed all the things I had issues with a Jaguar and improved WHILE still maintaining that charm that come with Jazzmasters/Jaguars. I picked a Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar (in Olympic white) and love it. I still ended up putting a Mastery bridge on mine as well as replacing the switch cap with a Nocaster Switch tip.. love this guitar.

I was especially stoked last night when I got an email from Henry asking if I wanted to see his shot of Johnny’s pedalboard from his 2013 tour for his album – The Messenger. Hells yeah!

Henry mentioned that there were some Carl Martin pedals as well. Johnny definitely likes Carl Martin stuff. Pedals are not pictured above, but if you were curious about what Carl Martin pedals he likes, you can view this older pedalboard break down.

Johnny Marr was recently on Conan, here is a video if you’re not familiar with his solo project:
