Pedal Board Breakdown – Jónsi Birgisson – Sigur Ros

Yesterday I saw a video of Sigur Ros playing “Kveikur” on Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon.  I’ve always been a fan of the band. I’ve always appreciated and admired their ability to craft such thick sonic textures. Jónsi Birgisson is the lead singer and is often seen using a cello bow with his guitars. I thought it would be interesting to do some research on what he’s using for pedals. Unfortunately, I need your help. Some of the items were unidentifiable.

First here is the video:

Based on the opening scene (shot from above), I was able to identify a couple of pedals

Ernie Ball Volume Pedal
Boss TU-3 Tuner

There are 2 pedals that I’m not able to identify between the Loop Station and Volume Pedal. The white-ish pedal could be a EHX Freeze (but he seems to prefer a OD in this postion), the other one is too hard to see. Doing some research, I was able to find some other (older) pedal board shots. In the post he used a Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer

Here is a rough image, but could possibly be the unidentifiable pedal in the first image (sorry that I don’t have a bigger shot of this)

If you have any photos showing what that pedal, or just know what it is, please let me know or comment below!

The white one looks like a Boss tuner, and the green one is almost certainly a TS9 Tube Screamer.

Looks like a Carl Martin Compressor/Limiter to me.

Peege, I agree (regarding the other photos). I’m referring to the first photo. The white one is definitely not a Boss tuner. You can see classic footswitch (3PDT)
