Bob Mould Pedalboard Break Down

Bob Mould Pedalboard Break DownYesterday while refreshing my Facebook news feed, I came across an awesome update from Bob Mould talking about the performance on the Late Show w/David Letterman. I was bummed that I missed the performance on TV (I had no idea) but was stoked to catch video on YouTube.

I’ve done a pedalboard break down for Bob Mould in the past, but it looks like his board changed quite a bit over the last couple of years, and thought it would be cool to piece some of the pedals together. Unfortunately, I was only able to piece a few of the pedals, there are a couple of unidentified pedals, so if you could ID them (or Bob.. if you’re reading – can you help), I would be happy to update this post! I know there are a few of you Husker Du / Sugar / Bob Mould fans out there! Bob’s guitar tone is pretty signature!

Here is the performance:

Wow.. great performance! High energy.. that’s how you get it done on TV!

Bob Mould Pedalboard Break DownHere is the break down of pedals. Some were easily identifiable, others are harder to determine. The first question, but I think I’m write is the blue pedal on top row-left. I believe this is a Wampler Ego Compressor based on the color and position of the knobs. In the past Mould used a Boss CS-3 Compressor, and I’m not seeing that on this board version. Secondly, it appears to have a purple Boss pedal to the left of the tuner. My guess.. Boss BF-3 Flanger. The pedal on the top right of the board, is hard to see. It has a ‘Strymon’ type of enclosure with input/ouput at the top of the pedal, but not enough information to determine what it is.

Wampler Ego Compressor
MXR Distortion+
Tym Beauty & Ruin (Mould Signature)
Electro-Harmonix Freeze
TC Electronic Flashback Delay
Boss BF-3 Flanger?
Boss TU-2 Tuner

Again, if you can identify any of the questions, please let me know. If you see something incorrect, please let me know. Or if you have something to say about this performance or Bob Mould, please feel free to comment below!

Thanks everyone!

UPDATE: 2/8 I was just informed that the pedal on the top right of the board is a Mould Signature Tym Beauty and Ruin pedal. Here is a post talking about this pedal.

Pretty sure I am wrong about this but based on the size and color of the “purple boss pedal”, my best guess is Digitech Hot Rod Rock distortion. I am pretty sure the “Strymon” is not a Strymon, it looks like it only has one foot switch and may be too narrow? My probably incorrect guess is that it is an Aphex Punch Factory compressor. Guessing this because he used one in the past and in one of the pictures the color looks right. Probably wrong because I agree that the blue pedal with white knobs is a Wampler Ego Compressor and I doubt he has two compressors on his board also in the other pics the pedal appear white instead of orangeish.

Thanks for sharing! Awesome video, Bob brings it – more energy than ever. Fantastic! I would agree with your assessment of his pedals; which is cool that other than his signature all are very commonly accessible to the common man/person.

Bob’s current pedal board as of 5/14/16 is:
    Boss TU-2
    Tym Beauty and Ruin Distortion
    TC Electronics Flashback Delay
    Electro Harmonix Freeze
    Wampler EGO Compressor

Sorta sad to see the mxr dist+ gone from the mix.
