Pedal Line Friday – 9/20 – Michael Smyth

Today’s pedal line is from Michael Smyth. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.

Pedal Line Friday - 9/20 - Michael SmythHey,

This is my submission to pedal line Friday. I have previously made a submission http://www.effectsbay.com/2010/05/pedal-line-friday-57-michael-smyth/

I think the comparison between now and then is pretty cool.

So I’m running a Zvex Super Hard On > MXR Super Compressor > Boss TU2 > Digitech Whammy > Snarling Dogs Super Bawls Whine-o-Wah > Joyo Vintage Drive > Mastortion > Zvex Machine > Vox Phaser > MXR Carbon Copy > Akai Head Rush

So I’ve only the Whammy, Machine and head rush left from the original post. Awhile ago I spent a lot of cash overhauling the pedals and bought a board. All totally worth it. I tend to get most of my sound from the gain on my Orange Rocker 30 head but I’m starting to look to try and use the Mastortion for a live sound. The MXR compressor is a great pedal and really lifted my guitar outta the mix. The Snarling Dogs super bawls whine-o-wah is the greatest Wah pedal so many options and controls on it. The Vox phaser is a great phaser really deep phase quite an aggressive phaser, I found out after I got it and I was doing some research on it that Billy Corgan has one as well. It’s great and different choice to the normal Boss of MXR phaser. The Mastortion, I was after one for so long and snapped this one up straight away when I came across it. Lots of drive and really smooth. I had bought the Joyo as a stop gap while searching for this and the Joyo is fine as a boost but doesn’t stand up in terms of sound to the Mastortion. The head rush I use as a loop pedal, simple and effective.

I play guitar in a heavy rock band http://complyordie.bandcamp.com

Thanks!
