Mojo Hand FX Zephyr Fuzz Demo

Mojo Hand FX Zephyr Fuzz DemoOne of the greatest things about having this blog/site is getting the opportunity to try out different pedals. Brad over at Mojo Hand FX was kind enough to send up a Zephyr Fuzz. We had a chance to try out the Mojo Hand FX Gyro a while back, and knew to expect a quality effect with this one. The fuzz is based off of the Sam Ash Fuzz/Astro Tone. Controls are simple – Volume, Attack and Tone and of course, a true bypass footswitch.

Here is the official description of the Mojo Hand FX Zephyr Fuzz:

Come taste the Fuzz…  One of the most sought after yet under-appreciated fuzz circuits of the past gets the Mojo treatment.Based on the Sam Ash Fuzz/AstroTone Fuzz used by the late Tommy Bolin…the Zephyr offers modern upgrades and our own mojo spice.  With a tone somewhere between a Fuzz Face and an overdrive, the original Sam Ash Fuzz was a unique beast.  Bolin often set his for massive amounts of high end and output to feed into his Hiwatt stacks.  While the Zephyr can be used to nail this particular sound, we’ve tweaked the circuit to be useful in different settings and versatile enough to cover a wide spectrum of sounds.

Mojo Hand FX Zephyr Fuzz DemoWhether used alone or in conjunction with other OD/Fuzzes…the Zephyr is capable of some pretty unique sounds. With some experimentation alongside other pedals and various amps, the Zephyr can compliment your sound, or completely take it over…depending on how you set it.  If you’re looking for something a bit different yet familiar at the same time…the Zephyr may just be your ticket to fuzz heaven.

For this demo, we have Jimmy Rolle playing is Gibson Flying V into a Germino Lead55 Head through a Germino 4×12 cabinet. There is nothing between the guitar and the amp except for the Mojo Hand FX Zephyr Fuzz. It is important to note that the Germino Lead 55 is a non-master volume amp. Audio was recorded with a Fathead Ribbon Mic and a Shure SM7B, both close mic’d.

You can listen to the high quality MP3 clips via SoundCloud

As you can see/hear, the Mojo Hand FX Zephyr is a great sounding pedal. It’s what we would call a ‘classic’ fuzz that can add some nice tonal textures and gain to your signal. Awesome sounding pedal. If you’re interested in this pedal, you can pick this up for $159.95 at Amazon or you can visit Mojo Hand FX’s dealer page to find a dealer near you.
