U2 is a funny band for me. There was a time I was SOOO into this band. Then out. Then In. Then out. Now a days I completely respect them, and especially The Edge. I’m sort of in awe of how much crap he gets with certain guitar circles. I’ve never gotten that. I think the guy is and was amazing, and he does something that very few guitarists can do.. define their own sound. So haters are gonna hate. I get it. But for me, The Edge is pretty “top shelf” material.
Today on Facebook, a post caught my eye – “Edge and Adam perform at @U2’s 20th Birthday Party”. Now, the first thing that was weird to me.. “20th Birthday Party”. The band has been together for 39 years (formed in 1976)… the B-Day was for the band. The cover band is Unforgettable Fire, a New York City Based U2 tribute band, and they had some special guests. They called up Dallas Schoo up to the stage. I figured about 2% of the crowd would even know who he was, and those for you here that don’t know, is the long time guitar tech for The Edge. So he came up to ‘look’ at the guitars, but then the crowd went crazy in this small venue with The Edge and Adam came on stage to play a couple of songs with the band.
Check it out:
I always admire artists that can hang like normal people. That have fun and interacting on small stages. Their hearts are about playing.. and enjoying excitement, that sometimes may get lost in the arenas. The fans of Unforgettable Fire and U2 must have lost their mind, and this moment would be one of those stories told for years to come. I’m happy for that crowd.
