I realized that lately I haven’t asked any Community Questions in a while, and figured I should get back on it. Yesterday I asked what is the best overdrive out there. I figured I would get a lot of different replies, and I did. Some were very common.. while others were not so common. I have to say, these community questions are bad for my GAS. Below are the replies from Twitter and Facebook!
Johnny Gibbons I don’t know about THE best but the Digitech Bad Monkey is certainly one of ’em in terms of bang for buck. Also worth a mention is Roseland Electronic’s Fat Bastard, handmade one-offs.
Michael Carpenter Disnortion…
T.J. Harris The Tube Screamer’s more than earned its classic status and I’m very fond of old-school treble boosters, but for a straight overdrive I’d say the best I’ve heard is the T-Rex Michael Angelo Batio Overdrive. It does exactly what I think an overdrive pedal should primarily do: take the signal coming in and make it a bigger version of itself. It doesn’t sound like a pedal – just like you went to 11. Very transparent, and the ’60s jet fighter graphics look classy too.
Joe Harley the best? the first! Maxon OD-880 ๐
Joseph Smolinski Danelectro Daddy-O
Brandon Bishop My absolute favorite is the Guyatone Flip Metal Monster
Jamie Laboz The Angry Troll is pretty decent ~ very versatile!
Kevin Ian i love the barber small fry, the barber ltd sr (perhaps the sweetest low gain pedal i’ve ever heard!), but right now, my baby is my HOLY FIRE! ๐
Jeremy Hainline Catalinbread WIIO
Liron Cohen Greenhouse effects – goldrive mk-3 :-)))))
Scott Niles For the money, the Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive.
Mick Blowe I’m partial to the old Marshall Bluesbreaker, despite the name.
Sammy Binder Barber Direct Drive
Lee Lundgren The Rockett Flex Drive. In front of a Deluxe, its not bad.
James Sego The volume knob on the amp.
David Caplinger Xotic bb preamp, most versatile od ive ever played
Jarno Junnonen Fulltone OCD sounds great
Matthew Thompson the Cusack screamer. http://cusackmusic.com/wp/?page_id=9
Matt Cheezem Love the Fuchs Plush drive
Dave Jones I’ve enjoyed the Carl Martin AC-Tone and G2D Cream Tone recently, but presently I’m really rating the T-Rex Mudhoney : smoothness, thickness, bit of added grit, and *very* versatile !
Denis Guillard Rockbox Boiling Point ? !
Cedric Bertin Love the barber stuff… but the Keeley Time Machine Boost is killer.
Rik Wade The screwdriver.
Phil Weust Fulltone GT-500 overdrive and distortion in one pedal. You can use one or the other or both and switch the order.
Brendan McLaughlin Amp O/D all the way.
Steve Rogers I used an Ibanez Mostortion for many years with a clean Marshall amp, and it even gave me a decent sound straight into the PA, but these days I just use the many levels of overdrive available from my 30th Anniversary Marshall combo and, for lead solos, the additional poke of an Analog Man Beano Boost.
Leopold Zitnik I’m a huge fan of the original MXR Distortion+, the one with the “script” logo
@hernandobloise @effectsbay Fulltone GT-500
@StationGuitars @effectsbay Disclosure: I sell @jhspedals but the Morning Glory is terrific!
@Chris_Basener @effectsbay Xotic BB-Pre for a lovely smooth overdrive
@RivetheadRasta @effectsbay Boss OD-1, always loved the sound of it.
@indrapjg Ibanez Tubescreamer 808!the best a man can get!
@Jeff_Abraham Timmy overdrive pedal….so transparent and harmonically rich!
@plastik_g @effectsbay Digitech Bad Monkey
@jlosavio @effectsbay lovepedal COT50
@jamie_frank Keeley modded TS-9.
@Crimsontone @effectsbay hard to go wrong with an original TS808.
@JohnHaselden @effectsbay Tech 21 tri-od always does it for me
@audioissues @effectsbay Overdrive only, or distortion? For overdrive I’m partial to the Marshall Jackhammer.
@daveuhduh @effectsbay the Fulltone OCD has my heart. Ibanez TS808 Reissuse is good too though, but only the reissue.
@_jwhk_ @effectsbay Well, I can only comment on the pedals I’ve used, but it would be either the Sitori Sonics Sitori Drive or the Timmy. #pedals
@ianmcclintock @effectsbay Best OD pedal I’ve personally ever played is Catalinbread’s Dirty Little Secret. It’s awesome.

Lovepedal AMP50
Closest sound to my old Marshall MKII 2204 (bought new in 1978) that I have ever come across. One control knob, what could be easier to dial in?
