I figured it would be a good one to feature today. It’s the ModTone Mini Mod Series MTM-DLY Mini Delay. Now, ModTone is not an unfamiliar name, but the Mini Mod Series was new to me. Basically, it’s ModTone’s nano series of pedals, with an extremely small footprint. And the price point is something to pay attention to as well. For this post, I wanted to only talk about the delay, but there are others in the series as well (chorus, distortion, flanger, fuzzer and overdrive).

Here is the official description of the ModTone Mini Mod Series MTM-DLY Mini Delay:

Enjoy the warm tone of analog circuitry and the precision of a digital Chip in this hybrid classic. The Mini-Mods marries two technologies to produce one of the most sought after delay sounds on the market today. The all analog circuitry first produces the rich warm enhanced signal created between your guitars pickups and the pedal, then the digital chip repeats the signal with swiss-clock precision.

I also found this video by TMNTV. I thought this vid fully showed what it was all about:

High pass, Mid Pass and Low Pass settings can be used in conjunction with the F-Factor control and Drive settings to deliver a wide range of exciting tones that work great on clean or distorted signals. The Funk Filter’s reaction can also be changed by simply backing off your guitar’s volume knob to find the “sweet spot” and can also change depending if bridge or neck pickups are selected.

After announcing the first Effects Bay pedal give-away, where I’m working with Fat Tone Guitars to give away a prototype F-Bomb Fuzz pedal, I thought it would be cool to shift gears and talk about phasers.

I use to have a lot of fun with phasers. I still own my MXR Phase 100 and I remember playing the older EHX Small Stone (military green box) back in the day. What got me thinking about them again is the EHX nano small stone, and trying to remember how the small stone compared to the Phase 100, and I honestly couldn’t remember. But, as expected, I found a pretty sweet shootout comparison video with my favorite demo dude (gearmandude) where he demos the ModTone MT-PH Atomic Phaser, Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter, MXR CSP-101CL Custom Shop ‘Script’ Phase 90 and the standard MXR M-101 Phase 90.

One area that I was thinking was ‘metal’. I’m not much of a metal player (I definitely had my share of listening to it in the past, and I do like on occasion some choice metal riffage in my face at a show), but I came across a pretty cool pedal for getting that high gain and ‘tight’ distortion. The pedal I want to present is the Extreme Metal pedal by ModTone.

Here is the official description:

The ModTone Extreme Metal pedal is a true bypass boutique style pedal that delivers insane gain levels that go from subtle to over the top. Our specialized “scoop” knob covers plenty of metal territory while leaving all the articulate definition intact. Adjusting the “Low” knob gives any amp that ground shaking low end thump while the “High” knob lets you dial in just the right amount of top end sweetness. Our proprietary gain stage lets you sprinkle just a touch of dirt or crank it all the way for a molten metal meltdown!

Here is a great video demo of the pedal by gearmandude (I really appreciate this guy’s reviews on pedals. Shows what they can do and has some variety with guitars and amps).

You can pick this pedal up at TunnelVisionMusic.com and it’s currently on sale for $79.95.
