Saw this post at the EHX Blog today, thought it was really cool.  At the blog they posted the following YouTube videos where one is a Enigma Q Balls on a full kit and the other is a Holy Grail Reverb just on the snare. I really like seeing non-traditional applications of effects. If you guys see other cool non-standard methods, please comment below, love to include them in a post as well.

From some  of my previous postings, you may notice that I’m a big Foals fan. Truth be told.. these guys are awesome, and I’m really into what they’re doing. Foals have a unique way of creating inter-weaving guitar interplay and tension with the use of clean guitar tones and upbeat drumming. There are various aspects of the tone they create from the guitars to the amps and to the pedals. For this post, I wanted to showcase Yannis Philippakis who is the singer and one of the guitar players of the band.

Yannis primarily uses Travis Bean guitars (Travis Beans were manufactured from 1974 to 1979 and utilized a aluminum neck design) played through a Hiwatt halfstack. They like to play clean but can build up to overdriven tones. They are a fans of reverb and delay pedal to help create their sonic landscape.

Last week I posted some info on the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb pedal, and noticed that some places carry the big version and other places only carry the nano. I’m assuming that EHX is probably going to be phasing out of the larger pedals since the nanos seem to be quite popular these days. So my question is… do they sound the same?

Well, with questions like this, it seems like Gearmanndude usually has the answer. I took a quick trip to YouTube, and I found a great Gearmanndude video comparing the nano and mr. big. Seems like Gearmanndude isn’t too into reverb. I can relate. I think it’s been about 20 years since I played with reverb, but not because I hate it.. it just isn’t required in the stuff I play.

Amazon is having a good deal on the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano Reverb pedal. Normally, this pedal lists for $158. Musician’s Friend has it for $118.50 + shipping, but Amazon has it for $83.15 + $5.50 for shipping. Not a bad deal.
