SubDecay F-Bomb Fuzz Prototype Winner!

I’m proud to announce the winner of the very first EffectsBay.com pedal give-away! Congratulations goes out to T.J. Harris (@thomas4th) for winning the SubDecay F-Bomb Fuzz Prototype Pedal (serial 001)!

The contest was a great success with many entries. I’d also like to welcome all the new visitors to the site that entered the contest! EffectsBay.com has been a real pleasure for me to work on, and I love that there is a community of visitors that frequent this site, as well as Twitter and Facebook pages. There is nothing like nerding out and talking guitar pedals. I absolutely enjoy reading your opinions on tone and pedal suggestions. Please keep it up!

I want to also directly thank Phil at Fat Tone Guitars for providing the great pedal for our first give-away. If you get a chance, please take a look at Fat Tone Guitars. They have great gear and Phil is a top notch guy.

I also want to say that there will be more give-aways in the future! How many more? Not sure, but for now, I’m hoping to have a few give-aways for the next few months.

Subdecay F-Bomb Prototype Pedal Review

As all of you SHOULD know, I’m working with Fat Tone Guitars on the first Effects Bay contest give-away. Fat Tone Guitars was kind enough to donate a SubDecay F-Bomb prototype fuzz pedal to the contest, where one lucky contestant will walk away with this sweet fuzz! If you’re interested to win this pedal, you still have time! Just head over to the Pedal Give-Away Contest blog post for more details!

Some of you asked what this F-Bomb is all about, since it is a prototype. Phil from Fat Tone Guitars was kind enough to put a little review together about this particular pedal.

Subdecay F-Bomb Prototype Pedal

The production Subdecay F-Bomb fuzz pedal currently available is a high gain, mucho distortion pedal that really goes to 11.  According to Subdecay, The F-Bomb is for filthy rock tones and by tweaking the knobs, you can get tons of tones—from all out fuzz mayhem to more discrete bluesy overdrive.  In my experience, the production F-Bomb really packs a huge wallop.  Make sure that the knobs are low when you plug in your guitar as it’s all out gain.

The Subdecay F-Bomb Proto we have here is a mellower, polite fuzz pedal that allows more of your guitar tone to shine through.  It is not a hugely versatile fuzz but the tones that it delivers are tried and true and sound great playing both rhythm or lead.

The F-Bomb Proto has 2 knobs–volume and gain, along with an LED indicator light.  The volume control is useful all the way up till it’s dimed and can allow you to adjust for both single coils and humbuckers.  Playing with the various levels of volume vs. gain on the F-Bomb proto can provide lots of tonal variation.   There is less variation on the gain knob but it is completely useful through the full dial.  As the Gain knob is dimed, more of a violin quality of the pedal comes out, especially when playing single note runs.

This pedal is a lot of fun.  Use the volume vs. the gain to really dial in your tone and to adjust for your guitar.

Don’t miss out on this contest, and submit your entry today!

Pedal Give-Away Contest!

subdecay 004THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED

Well, I’ve been hinting about this for a bit, and now I’m very excited to announce the very first EffectsBay.com pedal contest give-away. Hopefully, there will be many, many more in the future. This contest is brought to you by the great people at Fat Tone Guitars.  Fat Tone Guitars has donated a pedal to our cause, and it’s pedal that should spark some interest for sure!

We will be giving away SubDecay F-Bomb fuzz pedal. What’s making this give-away a bit more special, is that it’s a prototype, with a serial number of 001! Normally, the F-Bomb fuzz pedal is in a green enclosure, but this prototype is in a funky rainbow box.subdecay 003

Here is the official description of the F-Bomb from SubDecay:

This ain’t your old man’s classic rock overdrive. The F-Bomb has more gain than you will ever need. It’s balls to the wall with the drive knob at noon.

It’s not “open,” “transparent” or “warm.” The F-Bomb is the antithesis of everything the establishment thinks you should want in a dirt pedal. It’s compressed. It can get sloppy. Turning this thing on is like running naked in to the boardroom and punching “the man” in the face.

The F-Bomb is for dirty filthy rock tone. Gear is not furniture or artifacts meant to be kept in a glass case. So plug in your guitar. Turn everything on your amp to ten and rip the knobs off. Then turn on the F-Bomb and get ready to have some fun.

The “F” is for FET (field effect transistor) but that doesn’t mean some people won’t be offended by it. The F-bomb has 5 FET stages for a huge amount of gain, and a ridiculous high volume output. Play it loud, and when the neighbors start banging on the door you won’t even hear them. The F-Bomb is highly reactive to your guitars volume and tone controls, and you will need to use them to get the most out of this pedal. Even with just two knobs The F-Bomb has a wide range of sounds, from sloppy fuzz, to “chugga chgga” distortion, to basement blues.

Now, this pedal has some subtle difference than the current versions of F-Bombs. Phil at Fat Tone Guitars states “The SubDecay F-Bomb Proto we have here is a mellower, polite fuzz pedal that allows more of your guitar tone to shine through.”

While we’re on the subject of Fat Tone Guitars, I wanted to let you know a little bit about them!

At Fat Tone Guitars, we love guitars, amps and effects.  We are always on the lookout for new gear to bring to our customers–gear that sounds great and gear that we know our customers will love. We pride ourselves in having the best selection of guitar and bass effect pedals in the Chicago area and the web. Our lineup of stompboxes includes the best of what’s new and the best of what’s tried and true. We constantly talk with our customers to learn what makes their tone. And we are constantly scouring the web and attending tradeshows to learn about what’s hot. Then we deliver.

We also carry a wide array of vintage and pre-owned gear. Check our website often to see what’s arrived. And if you are interested in trading up for some hot new guitar or amp, give us a call as we are always looking to trade.

Fat Tone also has a full service department. In additional to setups, we repair electric and acoustic guitars and tube amps–both new and vintage. In addition to repairs, we also perform mods and upgrades on guitars and amps. From pickups to electronics; from tube replacement to cap jobs.

So here’s the deal. We want to give away a SubDecay F-Bomb Pedal Prototype (the F-Bomb normally sells for $109.00), and this what you have to do. Simply fill the form out below, and answer the question “What is your favorite guitar riff”. It’s as simple as that.

The contest will run for 2-weeks starting today. I will pick and announce one random winner on November 25th. You must enter a ‘valid’ email address, bounce back emails will be rejected. Please remember to subscribe to the RSS feed and to follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook to stay informed on the contest. After the winner has been notified and all is good (I’ve retrieved mailing address, etc), Phil from Fat Tone Guitars will ship the F-Bomb directly to the lucky winner!
