Any guitarists out there that you'd like to see on EffectsBay with their board broken down? - Josh HommeI posted this on Facebook and Twitter today. Basically, I was surprised by the great response when I posted pedalboards / pedal lines of musicians from various known bands. I myself am always interested to see what the pros take out on the road. I was curious who you’d like to see, so I thought I would post the results. If you have any more suggestions, please make a comment below. I will definitely pull from this list in the future!

Results to yesterday’s Community Questions: What effects would you like to own/play before you kick the bucket?

EffectsBay Community Question - What effects would you like to own/play before you kick the bucketI’ve been seeing a lot of “bucket list” type posts on Facebook lately… maybe I’m just spending too much time there lately, but I thought I’d ask a “bucket list” question for the site. Yesterday I asked “What effects would you like to own/play before you kick the bucket”. I was surprised that there weren’t too many replies to the question, but when you think about it… effects probably fall pretty low on the priority list when we’re talking about bucket lists. I mean really.. any effect could be a  realistic purchase in the big picture. If you have anything to add to the question, please do so by commenting below. Thanks for everyone that participated, here were the responses:

On Twitter (@EffectsBay)

@niksuela @effectsbay I would love to try a Klon Centaur and an Ethos Overdrive.
@dantemilo @effectsbay I’d like to try one of the original roger mayer octavio’s that hendrix and a few people used. That’s kinda what started it all

how can you pick nowadays? everything is so cool, and outside of the basic commercial store stuff, very well made. I would like an all 70′s era vintage board, but I can only imagine the noise. Honestly…at 54….I have what I’m gonna have…some nice, not too expensive things. what I use most is this 18watt Marshall simulator pedal, my Earthquaker Devices & Lovepedal stuff. And in this economy….a bucket list? Jobs.
Joshua Dawson anything by squarewave parade, Hexe Revolver, Death By Audio Robot, and the new Electrofaustus quad oscillator, which I’m going to buy next time I have the money. Also, I wouldn’t mind some of the noisier Dwarfcraft fuzz pedal
Kevin Ian Mid-fi, Death by Audio, more Devi Ever, Solidgold Fx Electroman, Moody Mushroom Echo, still looking for a plethora of delays and reverbs as well.
Mark van Vranken Fuzz factory, wiggle worm, pog, nano pog, eventually my talkbox design.
T.J. Harris Whammy IV, all the Moog pedals, Chicago Iron Parachute Wah, a tube Echoplex, POG2, Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird, Throbak Strange Master, Empress Phaser, Roland Jet Phaser, HBE Frost Bite Flanger, Fender Reverb Tank, Rotovibe, Empress Superdelay, EHX Flanger Hoax, ZVex Fuzz Factory . . . I better start writing some hit songs if I’m going to make this happen .
Mick Blowe Still haven’t got the Subdecay Proteus, but i will before too long…before i kick, presumably.
Dean Tompkins Maybe some early stuff…like what Jimmy Page probably has laying around in his storage

Community Question Results: What do you think is the best overdrive pedal out there?

EffectsBay Community QuestionI realized that lately I haven’t asked any Community Questions in a while, and figured I should get back on it. Yesterday I asked what is the best overdrive out there. I figured I would get a lot of different replies, and I did. Some were very common.. while others were not so common. I have to say, these community questions are bad for my GAS. Below are the replies from Twitter and Facebook!

Facebook

Johnny Gibbons I don’t know about THE best but the Digitech Bad Monkey is certainly one of ‘em in terms of bang for buck. Also worth a mention is Roseland Electronic’s Fat Bastard, handmade one-offs.
Michael Carpenter Disnortion…
T.J. Harris The Tube Screamer’s more than earned its classic status and I’m very fond of old-school treble boosters, but for a straight overdrive I’d say the best I’ve heard is the T-Rex Michael Angelo Batio Overdrive. It does exactly what I think an overdrive pedal should primarily do: take the signal coming in and make it a bigger version of itself. It doesn’t sound like a pedal – just like you went to 11. Very transparent, and the ’60s jet fighter graphics look classy too.
Joe Harley the best? the first! Maxon OD-880 ;)
Joseph Smolinski Danelectro Daddy-O
Brandon Bishop My absolute favorite is the Guyatone Flip Metal Monster
Jamie Laboz The Angry Troll is pretty decent ~ very versatile!
Kevin Ian i love the barber small fry, the barber ltd sr (perhaps the sweetest low gain pedal i’ve ever heard!), but right now, my baby is my HOLY FIRE! :)
Jeremy Hainline Catalinbread WIIO
Liron Cohen Greenhouse effects – goldrive mk-3 :-) ))))
Scott Niles For the money, the Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive.
Mick Blowe I’m partial to the old Marshall Bluesbreaker, despite the name.
Sammy Binder Barber Direct Drive
Lee Lundgren The Rockett Flex Drive. In front of a Deluxe, its not bad.
James Sego The volume knob on the amp.
David Caplinger Xotic bb preamp, most versatile od ive ever played
Jarno Junnonen Fulltone OCD sounds great
Matthew Thompson the Cusack screamer. http://cusackmusic.com/wp/?page_id=9
Matt Cheezem Love the Fuchs Plush drive
Dave Jones I’ve enjoyed the Carl Martin AC-Tone and G2D Cream Tone recently, but presently I’m really rating the T-Rex Mudhoney : smoothness, thickness, bit of added grit, and *very* versatile !
Denis Guillard Rockbox Boiling Point ? !
Cedric Bertin Love the barber stuff… but the Keeley Time Machine Boost is killer.
Rik Wade The screwdriver.
Phil Weust Fulltone GT-500 overdrive and distortion in one pedal. You can use one or the other or both and switch the order.
Brendan McLaughlin Amp O/D all the way.
Steve Rogers I used an Ibanez Mostortion for many years with a clean Marshall amp, and it even gave me a decent sound straight into the PA, but these days I just use the many levels of overdrive available from my 30th Anniversary Marshall combo and, for lead solos, the additional poke of an Analog Man Beano Boost.
Leopold Zitnik I’m a huge fan of the original MXR Distortion+, the one with the “script” logo

Twitter

@hernandobloise @effectsbay Fulltone GT-500
@StationGuitars @effectsbay Disclosure: I sell @jhspedals but the Morning Glory is terrific!
@Chris_Basener @effectsbay Xotic BB-Pre for a lovely smooth overdrive
@RivetheadRasta @effectsbay Boss OD-1, always loved the sound of it.
@indrapjg Ibanez Tubescreamer 808!the best a man can get!
@Jeff_Abraham Timmy overdrive pedal….so transparent and harmonically rich!
@plastik_g @effectsbay Digitech Bad Monkey
@jlosavio @effectsbay lovepedal COT50
@jamie_frank Keeley modded TS-9.
@Crimsontone @effectsbay hard to go wrong with an original TS808.
@JohnHaselden @effectsbay Tech 21 tri-od always does it for me
@audioissues @effectsbay Overdrive only, or distortion? For overdrive I’m partial to the Marshall Jackhammer.
@daveuhduh @effectsbay the Fulltone OCD has my heart. Ibanez TS808 Reissuse is good too though, but only the reissue.
@_jwhk_ @effectsbay Well, I can only comment on the pedals I’ve used, but it would be either the Sitori Sonics Sitori Drive or the Timmy. #pedals
@ianmcclintock @effectsbay Best OD pedal I’ve personally ever played is Catalinbread’s Dirty Little Secret. It’s awesome.

Community Question Results – What pedal are you dying to replace in your line… and why?

Seems like it’s a been a bit since I asked a Community Question, so I let one rip yesterday. “What pedal are you dying to replace in your line… and why?” I definitely am curious what people are into.. or not into.. or dreaming of upgrading to. Seems like a good way to get some ideas for yourself. Here were the responses from Twitter and Facebook. If you have something to add, please comment below!

Twitter

@SRGuitars @effectsbay looking to replace a @line6 dl4, a boss metalzone, and maybe a vox wah… Maybe not the wah if I mod it like @22frets w/whipple!
@klajenstein @effectsbay nothing…I just want more pedals!
@nogoodguitarpkr @effectsbay My DigiVerb is not my favorite, but the church setting is just killer. So, if I could get a quieter pedal with *that* sound…
@bigddallas @effectsbay tu2 for a tu3 or tc polyphonic n ts9 keeley for ts808 handwired.
@Literate_Monkey @effectsbay I’d also like an EH Memory Man because… Well the same reason as my last post. :)
@Literate_Monkey @effectsbay I’d love to replace my old DOD phaser pedal with an EH Small Stone. Why? Because the Small Stone is insane. :)
@jhale667 @effectsbay I’d like to try the CAD/MXR Boost/OD in place of my Micro Amp to give my @MesaBoogie MK III rhythm channel a bit more OOMPH
@cosibar @effectsbay gotta replace my Boss chromatic tuner TU-3 soon… I think it’s ready to give up the ghost. :)

Facebook

Daniel Wesolowski My wah, I love it, but there are so many cool new ones!
Kevin Ian none… but i’d love to add more! :)
Sam Lawson I need a ts-9 maxon keeley or ibanez not sure which!
Cosima Ybarra gotta replace my Boss chromatic tuner TU-3 soon… I think it’s ready to give up the ghost. :)
Chris Thompson To Sam: Spend the money and get a Roger Mayer Voodoo Blues….soooo much nicer with out all the mud of a TS-9 to Cosima: go with a korg pitch black or peterson strobe…definitely awesome tuners
Nicholas Greenwood …I’m ready to downgrade from a Boss DD-20 to a DD-7. I’ve already got a Space Echo and I’m not using the DD-20′s memory modes. I still like having 2 delays on my pedalboard, though.
Will Spicer not dying to replace anything, but i think the GigFX Chopper trem looks a lot more fun than my boss trem.
Sammy Binder my moogerfooger (but only for a MuTron III or III+)
Joe Harley need to replace the phaser that i’ve apparently lost somewhere in the last 16 years… and eventually switch my TU-12 for a TurboTuner. yo, and sammy… if you’re looking for a real mutron, then avoid the III+ or any other that says anything other than “Mu-tron III”…anything else is a counterfeit. you probably also wanna watch out for the HAZ…
Steve Gerlach Wanna upgrade my Talent Boost. I hear the Mark III is way better than the Mark II….
Steve Gerlach But seriously… yes Cosima, i’m with Chris – the StroboStomp is way better than the Boss tuners with their tone-sucking bypass circuit.
Matt Cheezem As far as tuners go… I really can’t say enough about the TC polytune. The only thing I’d like to replace is my russian big muff pi (newer black box) with an old green box one. anyone selling???
Matt Drozdeck my old mxr filter. as much as I love it, there is no 9volt adapter and I really dont feel like getting it modded for it. would rather sell it for a wah. anyone interested let me know.
Kelly Morris my bass wah. i love the 105q, but i’m wanting something else with a different flavor.

Community Question Results “If you had the dough, what would be your next amp purchase?”

So, I’ve been thinking about buying a new head, possibly a new 2×12 cab, possibly switching up some speakers.. who knows. I’m sure you’ve been where I’m currently at. Nothing is ‘bad’ per se, but I feel like I need to shake things up a bit. I’ve been looking at Hiwatt.. or clone of Hiwatt (Reeves).. love Matchless amps. So I was curious what you guys would purchase for a next amp. I know that money is always an issue, but if it wasn’t.. what would that purchase be? Here are the results.

I thought it was interesting that Facebook fan page comments crushed the Twitter tweets as far as response numbers. That’s a first.
