Pedal Line Friday – 1/20 – Olav Christensen

Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Olav Christensen. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.

Hello again!

I think I might have gone completely overboard this time!I finally bit the bullet and got myself a bigger board. Of course that opened up some real estate and I immediately entered the “MUST BUY MORE PEDALS” state. That turned into a selling spree of pedals I never thought I’d sell. Oh well. I might have a problem! It was not so long ago (September) that my board looked like this: http://www.effectsbay.com/2016/09/pedal-line-friday-916-olav-christensen/Pedals gone are: The Elements, Keeley 4 knob Comp, Kilobyte, TC Flashback, Rockbox Super 763 which was brand new and the Keeley 30ms! Crazy, I know but I replaced them with some pretty awesome stuff!

I always wanted a Hologram Dream Sequence so I found a really great deal on Reverb and pounced.

The Recovery Sound Destruction Device made me really curious as I like the contrast of really mellow and soft floaty stuff along side completely broken up and trashy sound. The Recovery delivers just that. I still have not figured out exactly how the filters on this thing work but it sure does murder all prettiness!

The MF-101 needs no introduction! It’s a filter and it is enormous but so awesome! I kept seeing demos for bass on Youtube but knew that it would make for an interesting guitar sound too, so there!

The Cali76 is probably the smoothest sounding comp out there and I just had to have it! It is actually a studio quality compressor in a pedal and it has dry out dial that enables you to let just a tiny bit of dry open sound through even when you squash it to death! I have never heard a better sounding compressor except for maybe a rack mount Tube Tech. If you like great compression, this is it!

On my previous board I had two delays, the Kilobyte and the Flashback. Those two are now replaced by the El Capistan and I do not regret that decision. That thing is just a masterpiece!

Finally there’s the Pettyjohn Pettydrive with its two sides of drive. This is the sound and tone I have been looking for. It is perfect for studio use. You can spend quite some time on that thing tweaking and twisting knobs but it has crazy range and does provide me with pretty much all my OD/distortion needs in the studio.

The signal flow now is as follows:
Morley Optical Volume – TC Polytune – Hologram Dream Sequence – Moog Moogerfooger MF-101 – Recovery Sound Destruction Device – Origin Cali76 – Pettyjohn Pettydrive – AMT CAB CN-1 – Chase Bliss Audio Warped Vinyl – Strymon El Capistan (Stereo out) – Strymon Blue Sky

I’m also getting an ART Clean Box 2 Hum Eliminator that’ll live under the board!

From there stereo to my recording device

Everything is powered by 2 Gator G Bus 8 PSU’s. The Cali76 takes 18v.

My guitars are still a Fender Jazz bass, a souped up Squier Strat with a 7 way switch installed and an amber 55 Mod Shop Tele from Michael Kelly! (Peaking in at the top of the image)! Still staring at it!

I’m on twitter and Instagram and both handles are @olzios I regularly post gear porn pics on my IG account so feel free to follow and comment! My albums can be heard everywhere but I like Bandcamp and here’s where you’ll find my stuff:https://dvrmusic.bandcamp.com/ Hit me up! Have a GREAT weekend!
