Pedal Line Friday – 9/16 – Olav Christensen

Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Olav Christensen. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.

Pedal Line Friday - 9/16 - Olav Christensen

Hi guys! So when my recently released album “California” was almost done, I felt it was time for a change on my board! I kicked off the Ditto and the Particle (Sorry, Red Panda) and replaced the EHX Next Step Volume pedal with a Morley Optical Volume which I like a lot better than the EHX, actually! New and notable pedals are the Rockbox Super 763 and the AMT CAB CN-1 followed by the Keeley 30 ms in pro mode. The 30 ms is actually an incredible pedal that does very little but does it very well. Since I record everything line, I wanted to try to emulate a more amp like and live sound and I think I am getting pretty close by combining the Rockbox with the AMT and the Blue Sky to emulate a small space. The Rockbox has a really nice transparent breakup and the AMT takes the edge off to make it more natural sounding! Even though most of the guitar on the new album is recorded through the previous board (see lineup http://www.effectsbay.com/2016/05/pedal-line-friday-513-olav-christensen/ )

I did add a few solo-ish kind of guitar lines on a couple of the tracks! Listen to the end of the track “Cupertino Cabal” to hear what the board sounds like now with almost no added plugins after the fact https://dvrmusic.bandcamp.com/

My guitars are still a Jazz bass, a souped up Squier Strat with a 7 way switch installed and an amber 55 Mod Shop Tele from Michael Kelly! (Peaking in at the top of the image) I still can’t stop staring at it!

Signal Path

So the signal flow is as follows: Morley Optical Volume, TC Polytune, Dr. Scientist The Elements, Keeley 4 knob comp, Chasebliss Audio Warped Vinyl, Caroline Kilobyte, Rockbox Super 763, AMT CAB CN-1, Keeley 30ms pro mode TRS cable out, Strymon blueSky, TC Flashback

From there I go straight into a Tascam DP-008 recorder and the sound makes me happy!
I’m on twitter and Instagram and both handles are @olzios

Hit me up! Have a GREAT weekend!
