Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Leshanta Perera. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.
Hi All! Greetings from sunny Sacramento. I finally completed my board last night and thought I would share. I play a USA Telecaster into a Hot Rod Deluxe w/ Vintage 30.
Signal chain is as follows:
Ernie Ball VP Jr. – More of a performance tool, it’s turned into an extension of my right foot! Great for volume swells and rolling back gain.
Rimrock Effects Mythical Overdrive – Hand built by Ken Dalton at Rimrock Effects in Oregon. The ultimate Klone. True bypass with those magical unicorn tear diodes. I like it with the gain past noon for that sweet, roaring crunch!
ProCo Rat2 – The tried and true, most versatile dirt box you can buy. Everything from smooth overdrive to gnarly fuzz. I use it for a few of our heavier tunes, and also kick it on stacked with my other drives when I want to get some crazy feedback.
Pigtronix Fat Drive – This one is a sleeper dirt box from the fine folks at Pigtronix. I run it at 18v for enhanced headroom and clarity, and mostly use it as a clean boost. Stacks really well with the MO when you just need a little more crunch and/or volume.
Boss RE20 Space Echo – A faithful reproduction of the mojo machine that is the Roland RE-201. Something about this pedal just works perfectly in a loud band mix. Use the EQ to really sculpt the definition of your repeats. I use it for longer delays than my DM-2 can handle, and the tap tempo functionality is crucial to our improv jams!
Boss DM-2 – The king of analog delays. This one is from 1983 and has the 3205 BBD chip. The ultimate slapback, the repeats sit just adjacent to your clean signal, and add that extra body and fullness to your tone. Pretty much always on, but also stacks well with the RE20 for an ambient, washed out sound.
Mr. Black Supermoon Chrome – A very versatile modulated reverb from the incomparable Jack DeVille at Mr. Black in Portland, OR. With the mix at about 9:00 you get a really nice plate reverb sound. Dial in some modulation and crank up the decay and you get into extremely spacey, ambient sounds. It’s simply haunting at extreme settings. This now discontinued “Chrome” version also features 100% wet mix, perfect with stacked delays and the VP Jr. for heavenly swells.
Korg Pitchblack Poly Tuner – Polyphonic tuning, true bypass, and built like a tank. I use it at the end of my chain to double as a kill-switch.
Powered by a Voodoo Lab ISO-5.
