This post is going to take a bit to absorb. I’ve been soaking in Nick Reinhart’s guitar playing for a few days now. Last week or so, Juan of Pedals and Effects posted a video of Nick Reinhart of Tera Melos, who I was 100% unfamiliar with. Like I’ve mentioned before, one of the best things about having this blog.. is learning new things.
First off, I want to mention Pedals and Effects. If you’re not following Juan on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and checking out his site.. you’re missing out. Great interviews. Great discussions about pedals. I can’t wait for the Peter Hook interview coming….daaaaamn!
So, Nick Reinhart, this guy is a true artist. He has the ability to make the sounds in his head come out of his amp. Some sounds are great. Some sounds are nasty, but the bottom line, he’s in control and everything is intentional. His style is chaotically beautiful. It’s completely the other side of traditional. It is very complex, and something quite original. Some will love his work. Some will hate it, but that’s they key.. he’s not ‘vanilla’. He creates and it’s unique and worth a listen.
Now, during the videos describing his pedals, he basically demonstrates some of the sounds so things do get ‘weird’ without understanding how these sounds are applied. So for this post, I want to first post a Tera Melos video so you can see what he’s doing with some of these sounds how he uses some of the pedal techniques. Here Tera Melos performing When Worms Learn to Fly
Okay, Juan at Pedal and Effects posted a series of videos, and I’ll repost them here. Get some coffee or a beer, free up about an hour, and let’s nerd out! There is a listing of pedals at the bottom of this post.
Here is part one, basically introducing what he does.. and how he does it:
Next we go into each pedal on his board. These are broken down into 5 video segments

His passion for all things “guitar pedal” is amazingly inspirational, and rad in every sense of the word. I dig it!
