When asked for advice from someone new to guitars, I always say go for a TU2, because if they aren't into guitar, they will not lose any dollars buying a TU2.

They sell on the street for about 85 bucks. If you find someone selling them for 50, snag it.

I bought mine years ago and it has never failed me. Peterson flip tuners are very appealing, but I've only used them on the side of a stage, and not inline.

Good post on a great tuner. Unless you want to spend some serious cash on a Peterson, this is the way to go.

Also I agree with what you say about bypassing. True bypass is the buzz word among guitarists today, but many don't realize that a long chain of TB effects will result in a loss of high end.

Buffered bypass pedals are good for other things too. Occasionally you'll run into a pedal that will pop when you turn it on or off. Putting a buffered pedal before and after it will often squelch the popping. For more about effects bypassing check out R.G. Keen's (for the unenlightened R.G. works for Visual Sound Pedals) article at http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/bypass/bypass.htm
